MI was privileged to welcome the Assistant Treasurer of Australia, Hon. David Bradbury MP, who provided his insight on how Australia has been positioned to respond to global challenges - leading to a lively question and answer session.
Other high-profile speakers included Indy Singh from Fiducian, who shared his wealth of experience on the challenges faced by professional advisers; Scott Henderson from BSI Training who provided an energetic session on developing leadership and the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) presented business opportunities for delegates.
A key topic was technology in the accountancy profession and the conference warmly welcomed two leading players in this field (Russell Evans, CEO, Wolters Kluwer Asia Pacific and Mark Oehlert, Customer Success Director, Socialtext) who discussed how technology is shaping the future of the accounting profession. Benjamin Martins of member firm SNG (South Africa) also led a very well received session on how firms can maximise IT consulting opportunities.
Other sessions included member firm success stories, Common Interest Group meetings, CEO update, speednetworking, new firm presentations and important updates on the delivery of several components of the Technical Roadmap initiative.
The conference was sponsored by CCH Wolters Kluwer and CPA Australia.
Delegates and companions were treated to an excellent social programme with dinner at the impressive Ivy Ballroom complete with a magician who astounded the audience! Participants enjoyed an afternoon of cruising on Sydney Harbour and exploring Goat Island learning about Australia’s colourful convict past. The conference ended with a memorable gala evening at Sydney Opera House with surprisingly musical waiters!
On behalf of all member firms, MI would like to thank Hayes Knight for their support and assistance in hosting this extremely successful conference.
